European aid for advertising of food products will increase progressively from EUR 61 M in the 2013 budget to EUR 200 M in 2020.
The significant increase in the aid will be allocated to information and promotion initiatives with the aim of strengthening the competitiveness of European agriculture.
“The funding will be used for the promotion of wine, salami, cheese and other products produced within the European community”, said Hans-Erwin Barth, a representative of EC’s Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development, according to the Bulgarian Standard daily.
After January 1, 2016 EU agricultural product promotion measures will allow labeling to specify the origin of products and their brands, within certain limits.
A total of 75% of the funding will be allocated to promotion of agricultural products in non-EU countries.
EU co-financing of the projects will amount to 60%. Priority will be given to projects that have been developed jointly by several EU member states.
