Bulgaria Scores Victory in Bled Chess Tournament

Bulgaria's women's team scored its third victory in the 35th Chess Olympiad, Bled, Slovenia, after defeating Australia 3:0. The men however suffered a defeat from the Czech Republic 1:3. Both teams of Bulgaria suffered a defeat a day earlier on October 29. Cuba, parading its strongest lineup in years, edged Bulgaria, 2.5-1.5, with veteran Walter Arencibia delivering on board four over Ivan Cheparinov. The women were edged by the team of Moldova. In the next round Bulgaria's women's team (Antoaneta Stefanova, Silvia Aleksieva-Collas, Maria Velcheva) will face Romania's (Adela Foisor Cristina, Gabriela Olarasu, Cristina Calotescu).
