Bulgarian Linked to Gang Boss Murder in Amsterdam Shot at Home
A man, allegedly linked to the murder of a key player on Bulgaria's contraband and drug market in Amsterdam in 2003, has been shot at his home at the town of Sliven.
Vasil Kachikov, 34, has been rushed to hospital, but his life is out of danger.
Konstantin Dimitrov a.k.a. Samokovetsa, a key player on Bulgaria's contraband and drug market, was assassinated in broad daylight in Amsterdam on December 6, 2003.
In March 2005, the Appeals Court in Amsterdam upheld the 15-year sentence imposed on E. V., 38, for shooting and killing Dimitrov.
The court discarded the defendant's claims he was not the man who shot Dimitrov at point blank range in broad daylight on Dam Square.
E. V., 38, claimed that the physical perpetrator of the crime was Bulgarian Vasil Kachikov.
During the shooting Dimitrov was accompanied by his girlfriend Tsetsi Krassimirova. He was killed with a bullet in his head while staring at a window shop of Amsterdam's largest diamonds shop - Amsterdam Diamond Center. Krassimirova was injured but survived after several operations.
V. was previously found guilty of murdering Dimitrov by Amsterdam Court in June 2004. Both the prosecution and defence appealed the ruling.
Konstantin Dimitrov "Samokovetsa" was one of Bulgaria's major drug dealers and smugglers, who claimed he accumulated his riches from trade with potatoes and wheat.
