Bulgarian Agriculture Minister Dimitar Grekov met Henri Malosse, President of the European Economic and Social Committee, to discuss the EU Common Agricultural Policy in 2014-2020.

At a Thursday meeting, the two discussed opportunities for creating youth employment and encouraging entrepreneurship among young people through EU structural funds, according the press office of Bulgaria's Agriculture Ministry.

Grekov acquainted Malosse with the main priorities of Bulgaria in the period 2014 – 2020 and the spheres of production that would be encouraged.

He pointed out that Bulgaria would back small farmers and vulnerable production areas.

Malosse pointed out that branch organizations and cooperatives had an important role for supplying the market with homogenous and high-quality production.

Grekov explained that there was an option to increase the financial support for young farmers under the new Rural Development Program, adding that it had amounted to EUR 25 000.

He specified that 20% of Bulgaria's population was involved in agriculture.

Grekov argued that agriculture in Bulgaria had a future and young people had to be encouraged to take up a career in the sphere.
