The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will propose that all EU countries introduce a minimum income of EUR 400-1000 within the next 5-6 years.
The President of the EESC, Henri Malosse revealed that this is one of the elements envisioned in the strategy for a "social Europe". The minimum income will depend on each country's economic situation, reports Investor.bg.
The EESC will submit its proposal to the European Parliament in the near future.
Malosse reminds that many countries have enacted a minimum income, such as France, where the state compensates anyone who does not earn that amount through a labor contract.
The idea for an EU-wide minimum income was welcomed by Bulgaria's Social and Labor Minister, Hasan Ademov, who believes the measure is obviously intended to decrease the inequality gap around the continent.
However, Ademov acknowledges that this will have to be very carefully planned in accordance with the economic realities in the poorer member states.
