Over 80 towns and villages in northern Bulgaria are without electricity due to the harsh winter weather.

Emergency teams had managed to fix the electric breakdowns in many places by 6:30 PM on Wednesday evening, but new problems arose during the night.

The worst affected regions are in the area of Veliko Tarnovo (27) and in Gabrovo (17). In the Razgrad region, 17 villages remain in darkness, while in Ruse they are 9.

The electric company Energo-Pro announced that its teams are working non-stop to fix the breakdowns in the grid, and everything will be back to normal by the end of the day.

The heavy snowfall also disrupted traffic. Trucks stuck in the snow caused a 10km queue on the Ruse-Byala road. Passengers on a bus complained of being delayed by 4 hours.

The meteorological agencies predict the weather will clear up throughout the day, and temperatures will rise above 0 degrees.
