Bulgarian sumo wrestler Daniel Ivanov, aka Aoiyama, finished the Kyushu tournament with a prestigious 10-5 record.

On the final day, Aoiyama defeated Okinoumi, who is ranked 6 places above him. With his 10 wins, the Bulgarian secured himself a higher ranking for the following January tournament in Tokyo.

The other Bulgarian, Kaloyan Mahlyanov, aka Kotooshu, pulled out in the first week of the tournament with a shoulder injury. This means he will lose his ozeki rank and be demoted to sekiwake.

Yokozuna Harumafuji took the title after beating fellow Mongolian grand champion Hakuho in the final match.
