Two rivers of lava were snaking down the slopes of Mount Etna on Monday, as emergency workers dug channels in the earth in an attempt to divert the flow from the Sicilian town of Linguaglossa. The airport outside the city of Catania remained closed for a second day. There were no problems with inhabited areas, said regional president Nello Musumeci, although the tourist industry was in crisis.
