Bulgaria’s Constitutional Court is to hold a sitting on Thursday on the case of notorious lawmaker Delyan Peevski.

The Court is set to rule on whether to consider the claim filed by President Rosen Plevneliev in October.

At the end of October, the Court was asked by Plevneliev to rule on whether to annul the decision of Parliament cancelling the appointment of Peevski as security agency head.

On June 19, 2013, Bulgaria's Parliament adopted a decision revoking the appointment of the shady media mogul as Chair of the State Agency for National Security (DANS) approved on June 14, 2013. The move followed a wave of massive anti-graft protests in Sofia.

Plevneliev stated on October 29 that the decision adopted by Parliament on June 19 contradicted basic principles of the Constitution.

On October 8, 2013, the Constitutional Court decided that Peevski should keep his MP post.

The protests that were triggered by Peevski’s appointment as head of DANS have continued for over five months now, with demonstrators urging the government to resign over its suspected ties with oligarchs.

Tensions escalated on Tuesday, as police cracked down on a massive anti-graft rally in Sofia.

The Constitutional Court is expected to rule on Plevneliev’s claim on January 14, 2014.
