The European Commissioner for Trade, Karel De Gucht will appear in court on charges of financial fraud.

The Belgian tax authorities claim De Gucht has concealed income from the sale of shares, amounting to EUR 900 K.

The trial is set to start in the end of November. This could prove costly for De Gucht in the upcoming European Parliament elections in 6 months time.

Karel De Gucht has been the EU Commissioner for Trade since 2010. Between 2004 and 2009 he served as Belgium's Minister of Foreign Affairs.
