Bulgarian MPs passed at first reading on Tuesday new legislation on motor tax and immovable property taxes.

Tax breaks for low-carbon emission motor vehicles in Bulgaria that meet environment standards will be introduced with the new law.

Buildings certified as energy efficient will be exempted from immovable property tax, according to the voted changes.

The tax on onerous acquisition of property will be lifted.

Also, churches, temples and monasteries will be freed from waste collection and waste removal fees.

Bulgarian municipalities won’t be able to set waste collection fees on the basis of tax valuation, carrying amount of assets, or market value of the property.

The changes will take effect on 01 January, 2015.
