Bulgaria’s opposition center-right GERB party considers putting forward yet another no-confidence motion against the government – this time due to the ongoing refugee influx.
Dimitar Glavchev, deputy chair of GERB’s parliamentary group, has told Darik radio that the refugee situation is “one of the issues” that his party believes warrants a no-confidence vote.
GERB may also initiate a no-confidence motion over the government’s policies in the fields of health care or culture, according to local media.
Bulgaria’s fragile Socialist-led government has already survived two no-confidence votes proposed by the center-right party.
The impoverished Balkan state has seen a considerable refugee influx over the past months, with authorities saying the number of asylum seekers in the country may reach 11 000 by the end of the year.
Bulgaria is the gateway to the European Union for refugees fleeing Syria via Turkey, many crossing the border illegally to seek asylum.
