Former Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has offered cooperation to the Ataka party – an ultranationalist outfit currently supporting the fragile Socialist government.

Borisov - who has criticized the Bulgarian Socialist Party for their reliance on Ataka on several occasions – invited the ultranationalists to join his center-right GERB party in boycotting the Parliament.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, the former PM reminded that the ruling coalition has refused to discuss two items proposed by Ataka by repeatedly putting them at the end of the agenda. Those are Ataka’s proposals to renew the ban on selling agriculture land to foreigners and to close the country’s borders for refugees.

“They propose these items every day, and they end up being mocked,” Borisov said.

He suggested that GERB and Ataka should both refuse to register for Parliament sittings until the two items are moved higher on the agenda.

GERB recently announced that its lawmakers would continue boycotting sittings whenever the Bulgarian Socialist Party, the liberal Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) party and Ataka fail to secure a quorum.
