Long-lost Bulgarian PC brand Pravetz is set for resurrection, with a new laptop to be launched on the marked before the end of this year, it surfaced Tuesday.

The recently launched www.pravetz.bg site, announcing the product, was initially believed to be a prank by the Bulgarian internet community, until the Kapital daily contacted the provided e-mail contact address.

The venture is a product of Bulgarian laptop cleaning company LaptopClean.

The parts of the computers are to be produced in Taiwan at the company's specifications, and the items will be assembled in Bulgaria.

"We already have completed prototypes and have performed our first tests," LaptopClean director Boyko Vuchev told Kapital.

The machines will boast their own Pravetz Operational System, which is based on open code, but will also support other systems, such as Android, Chrome, Solaris and Windows.

The Pravetz 64M machine will have Intel i3, i5 or i7 processors, up to 16GB RAM and up to 1 TB hard disc memory.

As is usual, it will have a number of features for attaching ouside devices and cards.

The Pravetz computers were launched in 1979 in a bid by the Bulgarian government to develop high-tech industries.

In the 80s, the Pravetz venture achieved some successes, with a computer producing unit built in the town of Pravetz (Pravets), the birthplace of longtime Bulgarian communist ruler Todor Zhivkov.

After the transition to democracy in the early 1990s, production ceased and the company went defunct.
