Bulgaria’s Sofia City Court has reduced the bail of Bogomil Manchev, an energy consultant who is charged with fraud and large-scale mismanagement.

Manchev’s bail is now BGN 500 000 – down from the high BGN 1 M.

Manchev’s company Risk Engineering is the object of a prosecution, which began on September 20, regarding large-scale embezzlement in connection with the halted Belene Nuclear Power Plant project, for which the company was carrying out consultancy services.

Manchev, as well as Krum Atanasov and Ivo Lefterov, former CEOs of NEK, and Sabin Sabinov, CEO of Worley Parsons in Bulgaria, were all charged earlier in October with taking part in a scheme to embezzle millions of euros in consultancy deals for the Belene project. Risk Engineering is a subcontractor for the consultancy.
