Bulgarian politicians need to rise above serving narrow party and private interests to further the common good of the country, argued Bulgaria's Vice-Presidentn Margarita Popova.
Saturday Popova spoke at a national meeting of Bulgaria's Thracian Union in the southern town of Madzharovo.
"Before starting doing politics, politicians need to learn well history's lessons, they need to remembr and respect them, for Bulgaria is one, while their political interests are many," said Bulgaria's Vice-President.
"Instead of embracing Bulgaria as a cause and the historic chance to show themselves as real leaders, politicians seem to prefer showing that they cannot transcend their party range and overcome their private interests," commented Popova.
Over the past week, political divisions in Bulgaria reached a new high, with opposition parties GERB and Ataka effectively blocking the work of Parliament with the intentional absence of their MPs from plenary.
"Party leadership does not mean national leadership. Let us wish that we will continue in challenging politicians that Bulgaria and the common good are more important than private goals," stated the Bulgarian Vice-President.
