The sharpening conflict between rulers and opposition in Bulgaria is to the detriment of the country, argued Bulgarian ombudsman Konstantin Penchev.

Penchev was commenting this week's paralyzing of Parliament's work by opposition MPs' refusal to sign in in an interview for Nova TV Saturday.

"One cannot say who is right and who is wrong in those procedural tricks. But it is certain that all Bulgarians lost from that," said the ombudsman.

"Citizens have the right to good governance. This means taht all institutions work transparently and efficiently. There is hardly a Bulgarian citizen, who would say that in the last three days Parliament worked efficiently," added he.

Bulgaria's ombudsman also commented that there is no actual division within Bulgarian society between those who support anti-cabinet rallies and those who oppose them.

"People are tired from nothing happening in the country and are equally angry with those in power," commented Penchev.

He urged politicians to assume responsibility to forge consensus, rewin the trust of citizens, and steer Bulgaria in a direction that would guarantee its prosperity.
