Bulgaria’s Socialist-led cabinet of PM Plamen Oresharski needs to complete its 4-years term in office as it plans to carry out the commitments it had made to Bulgarian citizens, vowing social and economic development, according to Bulgarian Socialist Party leader Sergey Stanishev.

Speaking at a meeting in the Bulgarian town of Vratsa on Friday, Stanishev stated that the government is working on enhancing regional development and better investment environment for foreign investors, defining these as targets unattainable for 1 year.

Stanishev pointed out that current cabinet works to evade a state in which authority is concentrated just in small groups of governing people and resources are centered in big cities, an issue which he believes has risen during former ruling cabinet of Boyko Borisov.

This year’s GDP growth is lower than expected, between 0,6 and 0,7 % instead of 1-2%, burdening the Socialist government to secure environment for foreign investors, a measure to improve the economic situation in the country, Stanishev told reporters.

The politician emphasized on the need of assuring the rule of law in Bulgaria and the subsidiary principle, which is now dominating in Europe, allowing separate policy powers deal with the specific issues in their area.

Friday marks the 107th consecutive day of relentless anti-government rallies in Bulgaria.

The demonstrations were prompted by a number of highly controversial appointments, most notably that of shady media mogul Delyan Peevski as head of the powerful State Agency for National Security.
