An ad hoc parliamentary committee must be created to investigate inadequate appointments during the term of the 2009-13 cabinet of rightist GERB party chair and former PM Boyko Borisov, according to liberal Movement for Rights and Freedoms leader Lyutvi Mestan.

Speaking in an interview for bTV Wednesday, Mestan argued that the appointment policy of current PM Plamen Oresharski is impeccable, and that his only criticism would be that the cabinet must be more active in firing Borisov's questionable appointees.

"PM Oresharski's rule has among its tasks to destroy the totalitarian system inherited from GERB," said the MRF leader.

"The Movement will propose the creation of a parliamentary investigative committe to review all scandalous appointments during the time of the Borisov cabinet," added he.

At the same time, Mestan defended the controversial proposal in July of media mogul and MRF MP Delyan Peevski to lead Bulgaria's State Agency for National Security (DANS), by calling Peevski an expert in the field.

The liberal leader nevertheless did not assume responsibility for the nomination, saying both his party and senior coalition partner, the Bulgarian Socialist Party, stood behind the nomination.

In an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio, GERB leader Boyko Borisov recalled that it was Peevski's appointment that triggered the ongoing street protests that have requested Oresharski's resignation.

He further dismissed Mestan's claims as misleading an untrue to facts, and in his turn called for investigation of the current cabinet's appointments.
