Bulgaria’s opposition center right GERB party has admitted organizing the transport of buses full of supporters to a major anti-government rally in the capital Sofia earlier this week.

As Wednesday marked the start of the new political season in Bulgaria, supporters of both GERB and the ruling Bulgarian Socialist Party were seen arriving on chartered buses from all over the country in Sofia.

GERB and BSP’s rallies coincided with a mass anti-government protest in Sofia. Non-affiliated protesters expressed concern over the presence of organized supporters of the two rival parties.

No clashes erupted between the rallies of GERB, BSP and the non-affiliated anti-government protesters.

Key GERB official Tsetska Tsacheva admitted on Saturday that her party brought supporters on chartered buses to Sofia, saying it followed “the bad example” of BSP.

“Bad examples are easily reproduced,” she said, reminding that BSP had resorted to shipping busloads of supporters to the capital on previous occasions.

The Socialist-led coalition government refuses to resign despite over 80 straight days of anti-corruption protests in the capital.

GERB’s center-right government resigned in February amid protests triggered by high electricity bills, poverty and corruption.
