Bulgarian police have detained close to 8 tonnes of marijuana at a village near the south-western Bulgarian town of Petrich, Blagoevgrad region.

The marijuana uncovered was spread in 9 plantations near the Petrich village of Dragush.

Police have seized and destroyed 3,846 cannabis plants of a total mass 7,970 kg.

The plants are estimated to be able to yield some 385 kg dry mass of marijuana worth around BGN 9.6 M.

Eight SUVs and a helicopter were used for the operation. Investigations are underway, said the local police.
