Bulgarians Shrink Their Vacation Budget: Vacation Budget of Bulgarians Plummets File photo

The budget of Bulgarians for vacation and travel has dropped significantly, according to data of the Institute for Analyses and Assessments in Tourism.

For the first time since 2008, in summer 2013, people in Bulgaria have set aside a lower amount for their beach vacation – on average they have planned to spend BGN 300 for a 4-day stay. This is 8% down compared to the summer of 2008.

According to experts from the Institute, in addition to the crisis, some of the contributing factors could be the promotional offers of seaside hotels and cheaper trips to the Black Sea coast due to the new highway.

The same data shows that more and more people prefer to visit relatives and friends instead of going on a holiday.

Lending offices also register an average two-fold decrease in loans used for travel.
