Bulgarian National Ombudsman Konstantin Penchev says nearly two-months of relentless anti-government protests show the country is in political crisis.
"This is a problem that must be addressed and solved by ruling politicians and the institutions," Penchev stated in an interview for Nova TV.
He stressed the problem was deepening and if Bulgarians did not join together to find cure, the country would face sinister events such as confrontation, full division of society, and even bloody conflicts.
Penchev declared he opposed the opinion that those ruling Bulgaria should wait for the demonstrators "to get tired and go home as the weather turns colder after the summer."
Regarding the work on the new Election Code, in which he participated, the Ombudsman explained he was under the impression the process of creating new election rules was purposely delayed and dragged on.
"This is cheating people and their expectations and I no longer wish to be part of it," said he, adding he was withdrawing from debates on the subject for this reason.
