Bulgarian PM Slams Former Rulers for Inconsistency over Budget Update

Bulgarian PM Plsmen Oresharski has criticized former ruling party GERB for opposing cabinet plans for a state budget update with a BGN 1 B loan.

"Just after former PM Boyko Borisov's resignation, GERB reversed their policy for stringent austerity by calling for increased social spending," recalled Oresharski.

"Now they are coming back to their previous position by opposing the update and calling for austerity," added he.

The budget update was passed at second reading by the Bulgarian Parliament's finance committee Tuesday.

It has been tabled for a second reading plenary vote for Wednesday, and if passed, it will become effective Thursday, August 1.
