Daniel Mitov Ready for Foreign Minister Role Amid Geopolitical Test in Bulgaria
Daniel Mitov, Deputy Chairman of GERB, has expressed his readiness to assume the position of Acting Foreign Minister
A coalition between the formerly-ruling GERB and the Socialists will be detrimental and fatal for the Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, says its leader Sergey Stanishev.
Speaking Friday at the opening of the sitting of BSP's National Council, Stanishev, who is a former Prime Minister (2005 -2009) and current leader of the Party of European Socialists, PES, said such coalition will be lethal as it will tarnish the left wing in the eyes of a large number of Bulgarians and all its efforts to bring change in the country.
He noted that similar coalitions work in Europe, but in Bulgaria this would be a stark example of backstage dealings.
Stanishev, however, stressed on the necessity to lead a dialogue with the opposition center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB.
"Bulgaria desperately needs a new culture of dialogue – to discuss, to listen to each other and hear each other, to reach consensus, to accept that the adversary has the right of a different opinion and position," he explained.
GERB leader and former PM, Boyko Borisov, criticized in a recent TV interview political wars in the country and the hatred between political formations, but admitted he has been at fault for it as well.
He also rejects the idea of a coalition, but has stated he was open for a dialogue.
He issued in June an order to all GERB MPs to not attend any plenary hall sittings, except those focusing on Election Code amendments, but has obviously decided to backtrack on it under the pressure of the EU, as it emerged from his words Thursday.
Borisov now says GERB's group will be in the Parliament every work day.
