Dina Stanisheva, the mother of Bulgarian Socialist Party leader and PES president Sergey Stanishev, has stated that her son would be better off quitting politics.
“I have never advised him to do that, but it will be actually better for him to quit,” Stanisheva has told the Weekend tabloid. She has explained that Stanishev has been the target of “too much spite and too many attacks.”
“Politics is a thankless job,” she has concluded.
Thursday marks the 42nd day of mass protest rallies against Bulgaria’s Socialist-led government. The protests were triggered more than a month ago by the scandalous appointment of controversial media mogul Delyan Peevski as Chair of the State Agency for National Security (DANS).
Although the appointment was revoked, the people went on to demand that the cabinet of PM Plamen Oresharski resign collectively over its ties with oligarchs.
Tensions escalated on Tuesday evening when protesters blocked the doors of Bulgaria's parliament, temporarily trapping inside more than 100 politicians, journalists and staff.
