The authorities in Bulgaria currently have no plans to curb the increasing protest activity of the Bulgarian population, according to Interior Minister, Tsvetlin Yovchev, speaking for the BBC.

Yovchev, however, stresses that the longer-lasting the rallies, the higher the possibility of erupting violence.

With the statement he reiterates his words from last week that he feared escalation of tensions and riot police officers being able to handle no more than a month and a half of demonstrations.

The BBC reminds that Bulgarian demonstrators are accusing those ruling the country of ties with local oligarchs and corruption and cites Prime Minister, Plamen Oresharski, in saying he had no intentions of resigning on grounds chaos will ensue in the aftermath.

Also last week, French and German Ambassadors in Sofia issued a joint statement, insisting the voice of the people to be heard and Bulgaria to part with the oligarchic model of ruling the country.

In a show of respect for their position, the demonstrators passed for two evenings in a row by the German and the French Embassies to give them a thundering round of applause.

The Dutch Ambassador haс also joined the opinion of the German and French counterparts.

The traditional afternoon rally, the 33rd in a row, is starting 6:30 pm Wednesday on Independence square in front of the Council of Ministers building in the capital Sofia.

The series of anti-government protests in Bulgaria was triggered by the scandalous appointment of media mogul Delyan Peevski as Chair of the State Agency for National Security (DANS).

Although the appointment was revoked, the people went on to demand that the Socialist-endorsed cabinet of Prime Minister, Plamen Oresharski, resign collectively over ties with oligarchs.

Protesters are also calling for Election Code amendments which will guarantee greater representation of the people in Parliament.
