Sunday evening thousands have convoked again in downtown Sofia to request the resignation of the Socialist-endorsed Cabinet of Bulgarian Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski on what is the 31st consecutive day since rallies started June 14.

The demonstrators began to gather on Independence square which is between the buildings of the presidential administration and the Council of Ministries around 7 pm. At that time riot police closed the square for traffic.

Policemen in uniform have checked the ID documents of a group of about dozen of young people. No arrests are reported.

The protesters are already shouting "Resignation!" under the windows of the government headquarters. The traditional march is starting around 8 pm. For the second evening in a row, it is going to stop by the French Embassy to honor France's national holiday and the victims of the horrific and fatal railroad accident near Paris on Friday.

Parallel rallies in support of Sofia's protests under the motto DANSwithme Global are being held Sunday in 25 cities in 11 countries – New York, Washington DC, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto, Montreal, London, Paris, Brussels, Madrid, Munich, Frankfurt, Berlin, Amsterdam, Oslo, Vienna, Zurich, Sidney and Seoul, among others.

Smaller morning ("coffee-drinking") rallies have been staged in front of Parliament in Sofia since June 26.

The series of anti-government protests in Bulgaria was triggered by the scandalous appointment of controversial media mogul Delyan Peevski as Chair of the State Agency for National Security (DANS).

Although the appointment was revoked, the people went on to demand that the cabinet of PM Plamen Oresharski resign.

Protesters have vowed not to stop until a step down.

On his part, Oresharski and the two parties supporting his cabinet - the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms - have said that resignation would throw the country into chaos and uncertainty.

A much smaller rally in support of the cabinet Oresharski is held every evening as well in the park of the National Palace of Culture.

People there are continuing to collect signatures for two petitions – in support of the Cabinet Oresharski and for the impeachment of President, Rosen Plevneliev, as they believe he has violated the Constitution by backing the anti-government rallies. The number of signatures has reached 67 000 and 4 000 respectively, according to Standard daily.
