Bulgarian football club Levski Sofia have fired coach Nikolay Mitov after the team’s surprising defeat at the hands of Kazakhstan’s Irtysh Pavlodar in the first qualifying round of UEFA Europa League.

“One thing is sure – Mitov will not be Levski’s coach any longer. I talked with him, we made the decision unanimously. We should seek another decision for the team,” Levski sports director Nasko Sirakov told Gong.bg on Friday.

The move follows Levski’s 2-0 defeat in Pavlodar on Thursday.

Kamoliddin Murzoev and Ulugbek Bakaev (a penalty) struck either side of Daniel Dimov's 12th-minute dismissal to secure a 2-0 win for the home side, which advanced from the first round for the second time in its history.

Levski are yet to reveal the name of their new coach. Former Red Star Belgrade manager Aleksadar Jankovic may be offered the job, according to rumors.
