Bulgaria’s former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov (2009-2013) has demanded that the brand new Trakiya highway be immediately launched.

Borisov has argued that the highway, which links the capital Sofia to the Black Sea city of Burgas, has been fully completed.

The former PM said the Socialist-led government has gratuitously delayed the official launch of the highway amid the busy holiday season – which he believes is “outrageous.”

He believes that the government is waiting for Regional Development Minister Desislava Terzieva to return from Brussels in order to attend the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the highway.

The Trakiya highway, which has been built for 40 years now, will be open for use on July 15.
The construction of the highway started in the distant 1974, but was stopped several times due to lack of money. Allocated EU funds made its completion possible. The total length of the Trakiya highway will be 360 km.
