A serious traffic accident on Tsarigradsko Shose Blvd in Sofia has left 12 seriously injured.

According to reports of the Interior Ministry, as cited by dnevnik.bg, a taxi heading for the city center suffered a flat tire, spun out of control, and rammed into a bus stop full of people in front of the "The Mall" shopping center.

The accident happened at around 8.30 pm on Wednesday.

Among the seriously injured is a child aged 6 (7, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Television) and his/her mother, and the two are in critical condition.

The injured were taken to four Sofia-based hospitals – Sveta Anna, Pirogov, the Military Medical Academy and the University Hospital "Tsaritsa YoanNa" –ISUL.

The ambulance is reported to have taken 17 minutes to get to the site of the accident.

The taxi driver has been detained and is to be tested for alcohol at a hospital.
