Bulgaria’s Registry Agency head has submitted his resignation under pressure from the new government, it emerged on Friday.

Yulian Mitev tabled his resignation on July 3, after being asked to leave office by Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Zinaida Zlatanova, independent sources claim.

Mitev has not received an official explanation as to why he is being practically dismissed.

Mitev replaced Violeta Nikolova after she was fired and charged with fraud.

His one-year stint will be remembered with the lack of scandals and the introduction of a text message alert system, which is an important tool to fight real estate mafia and the theft of firms.

Under his management, the agency for the first time processed all annual reports of companies without delays and problems.

Asked to comment his dismissal, Mitev said it comes as a relief because he will finally have time to take a break.
