Bulgarian Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin expressed his indignation at the news that a protester had thrown a tin of caviar at Parliament earlier on Friday.

“What a degradation – to throw black caviar at Parliament while a reporter is proudly pointing at the spot it makes on the wall!” Vigenin said on Facebook.

“Against a backdrop of unemployment, decreasing incomes, frozen economy and energy sector on the verge of collapse,” he added.

In a move aimed at mocking the lavish lifestyle of  lawmakers, a man threw a tin of expensive caviar during Friday morning’s “coffee-drinking” protest in front of Parliament in Sofia.

The protester told reporters that caviar was “the favorite breakfast” of ultranationalist leader Volen Siderov, a key ally of Vigenin’s Socialist-led government. The man said he would return with “pink champagne” for Siderov on the following day.

Friday is the 15th consecutive day of massive peaceful protests in the country and a new large rally is to start at 6:30 pm.

The peaceful anti-government demonstrations in Bulgaria were triggered by the appointment of notorious media mogul Delyan Peevski as Chair of the State Agency for National Security (DANS).

The decision was eventually reversed, yet protesters went on to demand the resignation of the socialist-led government over ties with oligarchs, an end to opaque policies, and Election Code amendments aimed at guaranteeing a greater representation of Bulgarian citizens in the government.
