Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev has issued a statement of support for ongoing protests against the government of PM Plamen Oresharski.

"I follow closely the protests and the demands they are raising, and also the clear calls of organizers and participants to maintain the tolerance and lawfulness of rallies," stated Plevneliev.

The statement was issued as a response to a Wednesday morning rally in front of Parliament, which faced off citizens and MPs and unfortunately included numerous cases of explicit hate speech on the part of protesters.

"The greatest virtue of those protests is their peacefulness," added the Bulgarian President.

"In the past 12 days, protesters have continuously shown their clear commitment to democratic values and the rule of law," added he.

He further called on all protesters to keep the peaceful character of their rallies and not to fall prey to provokers.
