Against the backdrop of unceasing protests, Bulgaria's parliamentary committee on cooperation with civil organizations and movements will hold a public discussion of changes to election rules during its Wednesday sitting.
Wednesday will be the 13th consecutive day of protests in the country.
The demonstrations were triggered by the appointment of notorious media mogul Delyan Peevski as Chair of the State Agency for National Security (DANS), which was eventually reversed, yet protesters went on to demand the resignation of the socialist-led government of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski over ties with oligarchs, an end to opaque policies, and Election Code amendments aimed at guaranteeing a greater representation of Bulgarian citizens in the government.
During Wednesday's sitting of the parliamentary committee, a report containing a summary of the proposals put forth during the June 18 round table will be presented.
Representatives of civil organizations and movements and extra-parliamentary political parties entitled to a state subsidy have been invited to the public discussion, which will be streamed live on the Parliament's website.
According to reports of the Focus news agency, this will be the second public discussion of election laws with the participation of civil society within the term in office of the 42nd National Assembly.
The meeting is scheduled to start at 3 pm in the Parliament building.
