Boyko Borisov, former Prime Minister and leader of the center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, has threatened that GERB MPs will not show up in Parliament.

Speaking Tuesday after a meeting of the parliamentary group of GERB, Borisov made clear that the MPs of the party would only attend sittings concerning Election Code amendments.

Borisov noted that it was of utmost importance to steer clear of provocations, which was why GERB was leaving Parliament.

"We shall not work under such conditions with such scant representation of Bulgaria's civil society. We want a new model," he stated.

Borisov emphasized that GERB MPs were not going to participate in Wednesday's vote on the reinstatement of controversial media tycoon Delyan Peevski as MP.

Peevski's appointment as Chair of the State Agency for National Security, DANS, on Friday triggered mass protest rallies for five days in a row, causing thousands Bulgarians to demand the resignation of the government headed by Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski over its dependence on oligarchic ties.

In his Tuesday statement, Borisov suggested that the existing government had to go as soon as possible.

He also vowed to initiate a libel lawsuit against Sergei Stanishev, leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and President of the Party of European Socialists (PES) over claims that Borisov had a criminal record.

The leader of GERB boasted that he had earned a proven track record of being an honest expert for the past 15 years.

He vowed to give the money he expected to be awarded from the lawsuit to charity.
