Active Life for Healthy Days: Dancing

Society | October 18, 2002, Friday // 00:00

There are many forms of dancing. Dancing is largely an aerobic activity that will improve the condition of the heart and lungs, as well as test your balance. Dancing generally makes you feel good. However, to dance for any length of time also requires muscular endurance and motor fitness.

To get started, simply choose a style of dancing that you enjoy or would like to try - and join a dance class.

Many people think they can't dance because they have poor co-ordination. However, anyone can dance - if not always elegantly. The main purpose of dance is to enjoy moving to music, and so dancing can be for any age, shape and size. As with most activities it's a matter of starting gently and building up.For most dance forms, though, wearing comfortable clothing is all that is required to get you started.
