Bulgaria's Parliament may impose a moratorium on the demolition of and bans to use illegal buildings, according to a bill initiated by the leader of the Bulgarian Socialist party, BSP, Sergey Stanishev.
The draft bill for the adoption of such a moratorium was already approved by the ad-hoc parliamentary legal affairs committee.
Bulgarian MPs voted to stop demolition orders and bans on the use of illegal construction when the buildings are used as the sole permanent place of residence.
Under the proposal, the moratorium should also apply for illegal construction on the territory of state, municipal, and private property in the fishing villages along the Black Sea coast.
MPs of the of ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms party, DPS, argued that the moratorium had to apply only in cases when the demolition orders had been issued for the sole place of residence of a household.
DPS MPChetin Kazak explained that the bill had to be amended before it was conclusively adopted.
