Bulgaria will insist that the issue of lifting visa restrictions be brought up during the talks between the EU and USA on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership Agreement, according to a Tuesday decision of the European Affairs Council at the Bulgarian government.

The issue is to be discussed at the Foreign Affairs/Trade Council meeting on June 14 during which the ministers are to approve the mandate for the negotiations between the EU and the USA, according to reports of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA).

Bulgaria insists that the ongoing application of the US visa regime for Bulgarians and citizens of other EU Member States clashes with the spirit of the future Agreement and would hamper the achievement of its goals, which is why the country will demand that the issue of lifting visa requirements is included on the agenda of the talks.

Another topic on the agenda of the talks is related to the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between the EU and Canada.

Bulgaria welcomes the progress achieved during the talks between the EU and Canada, and sees the Agreement as an opportunity for its economic operators, according to the media statement of the European Affairs Council.

Canada currently applies a visa regime for Bulgarian citizens, which obstructs economic, commercial and cultural ties, the European Affairs Council says, adding that Bulgaria will count on the support of European partners to solve the problem.
