Bulgaria: Bulgarian Greens: Cabinet Tackles Wrong Issues

The new Bulgarian cabinet, led by PM Plamen Oresharski, has chosen a route that can falsify society's real agenda, according to Bulgaria's Greens party.

In a statement released Monday, the Greens have critized the cabinet for attempting to revive issues that they describe as already settled.

Those include public smoking, which has been banned by law, the scrapped Belene NPP project, and the issue of diplomans who have served in former communist State Security.

"The Greens insist that the Oresharski cabinet take up seriously the real problems that Bulgarian society faces," says the party.

"Those include the defects of the energy sector, unemployment, the destruction of nature, and the introduction of an effective regulation of natural monopolies," add they.

In particular, the Greens have called for the closure of energy inefficient power producers, who they say are both less cost effective and more polluting.

They also stated that they approve the new rules for deconcentration of state funds into private banks, introduced by former, caretaker cabinet of PM Marin Raykov.
