Lyutvi Mestan, leader of Bulgaria’s predominantly ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms, has criticized the oppositional GERB party of former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov for threatening to leave Parliament.

“There is nothing surprising in GERB’s behavior. This is a continuation of their destructive line, which gives away a sense of desperation,” Mestan said, commenting on the center-right party’s threat.

The fact that Borisov has the largest group of MPs in Parliament does not automatically grant him the right to rule the country, the ethnic Turkish leader noted.

He pointed out that GERB’s threat to boycott Parliament would only deepen the party’s political isolation.

Earlier Thursday, GERB MPs, led by Borisov, left the Parliament’s sitting. Borisov declared that they will show up in the Parliament, but will not register to vote and/or participate in debates and will continue to criticize before the media the work of the 42nd General Assembly from the hallways.
