Bulgarian MPs have backed the establishment of an ad-hoc committee tasked with investigating the facts and figures on the alleged misuse of Flight Crew 28, as well as military aircraft and helicopters, during the term in office of the center-right GERB government.

The establishment of the ad-hoc committee was approved Wednesday by 206 votes in favor, according to reports of dnevnik.bg.

The panel is to examine the schedule, destination, purpose, staff, and cost of the flights carried out by the flight crew of the Defense Ministry during the period August 2009 - March 2013.

The ad-hoc committee includes 2 MPs from each parliamentary group, including Ventsislav Lakov (Chair) and Margarita Nikolova from nationalist party Ataka, Vladislav Goranov and Ivaylo Moskovski from center-right party Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB), Anton Kutev and Zhelyo Boychev from the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), and Yordan Tsonev and Ramadan Atalay from the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms party (DPS).

The scandal over Flight Crew 28 broke out in the summer of 2012  when it emerged that the government aircraft had been used to take two amateur league football teams to the Black Sea city of Varna for a match.
