Former Interior Minister Tstevan Tsvetanov has given up his MP immunity.
Tsvetanov's statement came Wednesday morning shortly after he entered the clerk's office of Parliament.
He told journalists he would reveal teh name of the lawyer he had chosen later on Wednesday, stressing that he was absolutely innocent and the charges were unfounded.
Tsvetanov is to undergo a probe which will establish whether he failed to exercise proper control over Interior Ministry officials, thereby allowing unauthorized wiretapping of high-profile businessmen, politicians and magistrates.
Tsvetanov vowed to give up his immunity from prosecution after his return from Brussels.
The prosecuting authority is expected to seek arrest or a bail of nearly BGN 100 000.
