Bulgaria’s newly appointed Finance Minister Petar Chobanov has named “building and strengthening the institutional capacity” as his top priority.

Chobanov, who is part of the Socialist-led government that took oath of office on Wednesday, said that was yet to be made clear whether the state budget would have to be updated.

The new Finance Minister thanked his predecessor, Kalin Hristov, for his efforts.

“We will continue working together on a national as well as European level,” Chobanov said.

Chobanov holds an MA in Macroeconomics and a PhD in Finance from the University of World and National Economy (UNWE). He completed specializations in monetary and financial stability policies.

His previous work experience includes, among others, the jobs of Senior Expert at the Analyses unit of the Treasury Directorate of the Bulgarian National Bank.
