Supporters of Bulgarian nationalist party VMRO, holding flags turned upside down, gathered Sunday in front of the Court Palace in Sofia for new protests against political and economic monopolies.

VMRO leader Krasimir Karakachanov, as cited by the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), made clear that the party was renewing protests because the caretaker government had done nothing to terminate the contracts with power distributors.

Bulgaria's center-right GERB government resigned on February 20 after weeks of mass protests against poverty, corruption, and high electricity and heating bills.

The organizers of Sunday's protest rally argued that electricity, water, and heating bills had remained unchanged and the companies controlling monopoly power had remained unchanged.

The VMRO leader suggested that the party's only hope for achieving justice was the prosecuting authority and voiced firm support for the actions of Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov, whom he described as "the last man standing in the country".

Karakachanov went on to say that the nationalist party would also request a cancellation of the May 12 election results.

Over 10 political formations, including center-right party Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB), and marginal conservative Order Law and Justice (RZS) parties, have requested a voidance of the May 12 early elections over suspicions of fraud, asking that the matter be referred to the Constitutional Court.
