Bulgaria: Bulgaria Ex-Top Cop Ready to Give Up Immunity on May 21 A vast majority of Bulgarians – 80.4% - believe that the country’s prosecuting authority should demand that former Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov be stripped of his immunity as lawmaker, according to a poll conducted by Sova Harris. Bulgaria’s embattled former Interior Minister has declared that he would give up his immunity as lawmaker immediately after the country’s new Parliament is convened, on May 21, Tuesday.

"On Tuesday, I will publicly ask to be stripped of immunity from prosecution. I have a moral obligation to all who believe in me and supported me," Tsvetanov said in an interview for Nova TV channel.

Tsvetanov, who is Borisov’s closest aide and a key official of the center-right GERB party, faces charges of failing to exercise proper control over the use of special surveillance devices during his term in office.

The Chief Prosecutor’s Office has already declared that it will request stripping the immunity of Tsvetanov after the latter takes the oath of office as Member of the Parliament.

Earlier in the week former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov surprisingly announced that his center-right GERB party will request a cancellation of Sunday’s election results due to a "violation" on the day before the vote.
