Maria Sharapova has surprisingly withdrawn from the Italian Open, citing physical problems.

"I'm sorry," Sharapova, who has won twice the tournament, wrote on Twitter.  "Didn't recover after being sick last week and it got me again."

"It really is one of my favorite tournaments during the year and I can't wait to be back next year!"

The world number two had been due to play Italy's Sara Errani in the quarterfinals.

Earlier this month the tennis princess confirmed her romantic relationship with Bulgarian tennis star Grigor Dimitrov.

Right after Dimitrov, 21, the tall, dark and handsome Bulgarian from the city of Haskovo, who has long been seen as the next big thing in tennis, defeated World Number 1, Novak Djokovic, the couple was spotted on a romantic walk in Madrid.

Dimitrov and Sharapova were seen and caught on camera kissing, hugging and holding hands, which put an end to the endless rumors of their intimate relationship.
