Almost 50% of Bulgarians Abroad Voted for Ethnic Turkish Party

Bulgaria: Almost 50% of Bulgarians Abroad Voted for Ethnic Turkish Party File photo

A total of 49.15% of all Bulgarian eligible voters living abroad voted for the predominantly ethnic Turkish party Movement for Rights and Freedoms in Sunday’s general election.

A total of 20.8% of all Bulgarian voters abroad cast their ballots for the center-right GERB party of former PM Boyko Borisov, the Bulgarian electoral body announced after counting all ballots.

The predominantly ethnic Turkish coalition Center - Freedom and Dignity won 7.96% of Bulgarian expat votes.

The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) won 4.43%.

With 100% of domestic ballots counted, GERB received 30.50%, followed by BSP (26.61%), the Movement for Right and Freedoms (11.29%), and the nationalist Ataka (7.30%). No other parties overcame the 4% election threshold.
