Bulgaria Elections: 51% Turnout, 24% of Valid Votes Go to Bin

The turnout of Bulgaria's Sunday early parliamentary elections is estimated at 51.33%, according to official preliminary results by the Central Electoral Commission.
This is much less than the 60.2% recorded in Bulgaria's last general elections, in July 2009.
An exceedingly large share of the valid votes this time over - 24.35% - have gone for parties that have not managed to make the 4% election threshold.
As a rough comparison, during elections 2009 - which were conducted under a different, mixed electoral system - only 7.88% of the proportional vote went for parties that did not make it to 4%.
2013's preliminary results mean that over 61.2% of Bulgaria's close to 7 M registered voters will not have a representative they voted for in the country's next parliament.
These results are based on 99.563% of election protocols already processed Monday.
