Protesters Swiftly Gather Following Snap Elections in Bulgaria

Politics » ELECTIONS 2013 | May 12, 2013, Sunday // 20:17

Protesters have started to gather in Bulgarian capital Sofia soon after voting ended at 8 pm Sunday in Bulgaria's snap parliamentary vote.

Ralliers assembled on the symbolic Orlov Most intersection and then joined others in front of the National Palace of Culture, where political parties are to hold press conferences later Sunday night.

The total number of people, who carried some slogans critical of former ruling GERB party, was however not much above 100.

According to exit poll data, GERB has once more won the vote with some 31%, around 4 percentage points in front of the Bulgarian Socialist Party.

As things stand now, only two other parties are likely to enter parliament - the liberal Movement for Rights and Freedoms and nationalists Ataka.

Bulgaria's last PM, GERB chair Boyko Borisov, filed his resignation end of February, after a string of streets protests against stagnation and corruption in Bulgaria.

This was only months ahead of the July date for regular general elections.
